6 to 8 Years Relevant Experience
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated SQL Database Administrator with 4+ years of experience to manage and maintain our SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, high availability, and Azure cloud migration (PaaS & IaaS). This role requires a proactive, self-driven professional capable of troubleshooting complex database issues and working independently in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
- Administer, configure, and maintain MS SQL Server databases (2008 through 2019).
- Design and manage database architectures to support business needs with optimal performance and security.
- Develop, implement, and manage database maintenance plans, including index optimization, integrity checks, and backups.
Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting
- Monitor and resolve performance issues including blocking/locking, deadlocks, memory pressure, CPU/I/O bottlenecks, and query optimization.
- Analyze execution plans, tune complex queries, and optimize stored procedures for faster response times.
- Troubleshoot production issues using SQL Profiler, Extended Events, Activity Monitor, and other diagnostic tools.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design, implement, and support HA/DR solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, Database Mirroring, and Replication.
- Perform capacity planning and health checks to ensure maximum availability and system resilience.
Automation & Scripting
- Automate routine DBA tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, or SSIS packages.
- Maintain and monitor custom SQL jobs, including ETL operations using SSIS.
Cloud & Compliance
- Support Azure cloud migrations and administration of SQL workloads using both PaaS and IaaS solutions.
- Ensure database systems are CIS compliant and maintain security and audit configurations as per regulatory standards.
- Remediate findings from security scans and database compliance tools.
Reporting & Integration
- Develop, deploy, and troubleshoot reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Manage and troubleshoot SSIS packages with heterogeneous data sources and destinations.
Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate with development teams, SMEs, and stakeholders to design scalable and reliable database solutions.
- Provide on-call support during off-peak hours and weekends as needed.
- Work independently on production issues and projects without requiring constant guidance.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 4+ years of SQL Server administration experience.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server 2016/2017/2019.
- Strong knowledge of performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plans.
- Proven expertise in Always On, Database Mirroring, and Replication.
- Experience managing VLDBs (10GB – 5TB).
- Solid understanding of SQL backup/recovery, monitoring, and security practices.
- Expertise in Azure SQL Database and cloud migration strategies (PaaS/IaaS).
- Experience with SSIS and SSRS development and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with tools for diagnostics and compliance management.
- Ability to document architecture, configurations, and maintenance procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft certifications such as MCSA: SQL Server, MCSE: Data Management & Analytics, or Azure Database Administrator Associate.
- Experience with DevOps pipelines, version control, and CI/CD integration in database environments.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
